Premilinary Task

Breif Summary:

For my Premilinary Task, i was instructed to design an School/college Magazine that features a photograph of a student ina medium close-up shot, with appropiate text and masthead

Target Audience and Purpose

As the magazine is going to be a school magazine, the target audience of my magazine will be aging from 11-18 year olds. I will be focusing my magazine on what its like in school, along with department achievements from students, show the experience you can get while in secondary school. The purpose of the magazine is to show the insight of what secondary school is like, what is install for them and what achievement they are able to recieve if they find a part of interest they like. The magazine will also help students decide what GSCE and A levels to take when they come to this point in there education life.

Analysing School Magazines (Front Covers)

The first magazine which i have chosen to analyse is primary time, this magazine is based for primary school students. The front cover has very light colour scheme. the reason for this maybe that the students like the colours making it more lively and fitting the purpose of school children. The main image is of primary school children to show that the magazine is for them. They have included an advertisement on the front cover in which the children are able to win an item. This may help my decision whether or not to add one on my magazine.

The second school magazine which i have chosen to analyse is 'school sport'. i have chosen to do this magazine as it can be relevent to how i can style my magazine in a way of department skills within the school. They have a simple, but light colouring of texts and background. They have also included at the bottom of the magazine, what is inside the magazine, this can be a useful feature to my school magazine to show the audience what is inside for them.

Flat Plans for my School Magazine:



My first flat plan of my school magazine took place with the traditional magazine look. It has the basic information on the front cover which is provided by other magazines, such as image, background and main article along with sub articles. I have chosen the background to be the campus as the school magazine is aimed at the secondary students, this can reflect to student swhich goes to this school can be happy.

my second flat plan of my school magazine has a more stylish layout. I have adapted to my first plan by moving parts around and added more into the design. The front cover will not include the main article on it. There will be a variety of images along the left hand side of the magazine, showing images of the school, there will be an marlwood logo which will be in the left hand corner which symbollises that the magazine is for its school, the main image will have a student who has earned an achievement from a department in school. This determines the background, as the student is from a department, i have concluded to have the background as the area of department.
