Main Task

Real Media Review

I am going to compare two music magazines, Vibe (2011 February) and Kerrang (2011 March). Both these magazines have similar purposes for their audience by providing music inforamtion for different types of music genre. I have chosen to compare these as they will fit into purpose of my music magazine production, this will show me how music magazines have laid out there magazine for their audience. By the front cover of Kerrang, it shows that it has a Grungy theme to it, which portrays the the music in which the magazine promotes, along with this it promotes posters and offers, along with music, gigs & festival information. But in Vibe, it is a more laid back design only promoting what is inside the magazine.

Another music magazine whch I am going to analyse is NME, they have stuck to the colours black, white, yellow for there front cover. The magazine is stuffed full of inside articles, with the main article bold across the centre of the magazine to catch the eyes of its readers. The yellow stands out to its audience making it so easily to be seen and caught. The magazines purpose is to promote the lives of the music popstars to its audience, on how they live in the modern world.

Another music magazine, Q is different from the other magazines as its title logo is overlapping its background image. The image is an close up shot of the face, with no smile, which makes the magazine dull, and not able to catch its audience. The image's glasses looks as if it has another image inside, but is only the reflection of what he is seeing, just as if we were looking through his eyes. The magazines articles are mostly all done the right hand side.

Double Page Spread Analysis

As you can see from the images in this double page spread, they have 3 that are faded and one that is solid, this shows that the solid character is fading away from those closest to him. From the title on this page, the colours are matching the images, this takes the same effect. The text is all squeezed together on the page to give you all the information you need to know.

Ø Title

I have chosen this name for my music magazine as the name sounds catchy and might catch the eyes of the music audience. The meaning for the name if my magazine is that when writing about my article I will be able to talk about the latest releases, the music chart, the singers/bands lives and the soon to be releases song for my audience to see what will be released in the future. My original name for my magazine was Love Live Music; I chose this as it had two meanings to it. The first meaning can be represented as music is your life or as seeing live bands going to their gigs. After long thought and help from a friend on choosing a name, Tune Trippin’ sounded more of a music magazine name.

Ø #1 Music Magazine

This is to represent that the UK public voted the magazine to being the top of the music industry. This will help increase the circulation of my magazine as more audience will be reading the magazine.

Ø Advertisement

For my advertising, I decided to keep all the competition prizes to be related to music. I will include competition prizes such as seeing a live band perform at an arena, music cd which is only been released, signed t-shirts from the singer/band. Inside the magazine, the adverts may change by having Jewellery, accessories that are related to the music audience.

Ø Double Page Spread

My double page spread will be about creating a band. The reason I chose this is that I am able to give insights to the audience who are trying to make a band and be successful. I will include tips on music styles, how to get gigs.

PhotoShoot
Photo Shoot For my photo shoot i have decided to go for a music style image. I have taken pictures of people using musical instruments that band may use during training and gigs. The pictures represent the characters training as a band, with the guitarist, pianoist and singer. Unfortunately I was unable to get an picture with a band member on the drums from the band, as were unable to use the drums due to having no key for the room.

Music Magazine Flat Plans

For my mock up, i chose a simplistic magazine style using a simple grid layout of deciding where i will place my text on the front cover. I have added an advertisement on the front cover to promote the competition that will be displayed within my magazine.

Final Magazine

Pimp my blog - Evaluation

> Looking back at you preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

The preliminary task was a good way in learning all the new development tools to help produce magazines at a semi-professional standard. By doing the researching, planning, designing and evaluating of magazine front cover, I have been able to gain ideas from these and use them for my main task in creating a music magazine

> Have you reflected on the use and impact of digital technology?

Digital technology, such as Photoshop was useful for my preliminary and main task, with this i was able to edit pictures which were taken and altered to look professional on my main task. As i have never used this programme before it was alot of help in providing the essentials i needed for editing my images for my magazine. Another software i used to create my magazine was Pages, this was also a new programme for me to use, after doing my preliminary task with pages i had the knowledge i needed to create a music magazine to a quality standard.

> How did you use media technologies in your construction, research, planning and evaluating?

The camera that i used for my photoshoot was a ... which was provided by my media teacher other technologies that i used were pages, photoshop, paint shop pro, and microsoft word/publisher. I also used published magazines, such as kerrang, vibe for my research. While using the internet for research i was able to find help with grids and other media technologies which are used for creating magazines.

> Audience Feedback?

I have printed out my music magazine and showed a few students within our school varying from all ages to see what feedback i got given (the music magazine is based for teens to young adults). the feedback i was given was that i may need to alter my music magazine front cover to look more professional like all the other music magazine, and they suggested that i need more articles on the front to catch the eyes of those who would buy it, by having interesting eye catching articles. I told them that i will be using convergence, which having it on a website, they said that this would provide a better audience as they are able to read the full articles and watch the interviews instead of just reading them.

> Brand Identity: is there one created? audience? what else can be done to secure it?

Tune Trippin' is unique but is a simple music magazine, i havent overloaded the front page with articles that may ruin my background. My magazine will help provide those students who are looking for a music career, by providing them all the information they would need from creating bands to hitting gig. While deciding whether or not to have a website for the magazine, it would have produce a bigger audience as i could insert a forums part where all my audience will be able to chat to one another and post images/videos to help each other.

> Editing: what purely descriptive and 'light weight' sections can be cut/improved?

The sections which i would consider on improving would be my music magazine cover, it is a very bland and simple front cover, i would need to find a more musical image in which would catch the eyes of my audience, Add more interesting articles in which my audience would want to read. While printing off my final product i found out that part of my cover was missing from the bottom, this ment that i had to move the items on the front upwards to allow it all to be fitted on the front cover.
